MinesweeperIs Minesweeper always solvable?
No. A standard random Minesweeper board can reach a position where two squares are equally likely to hold a mine, and no clue can tell them apart. No Guess mode solves this by checking every board before you play it: each game here can be finished from your first click by logic alone, without guessing.
What makes a board no-guess?
A safe opening is only the beginning. Before accepting a board, we play it with a verifier that uses revealed numbers, confirmed flags, and subtraction between overlapping neighborhoods, the same reasoning taught on our Minesweeper patterns page. It must reach a win without opening an uncertain square. A board that stalls is discarded.
Generation happens in a background worker in your browser. Difficult or very dense custom boards may not produce a verified puzzle within one attempt. If that happens, retry or reduce the mine count. We never quietly switch to an unverified board.
Get a hint you can learn from
Hints identify a forced safe square or a forced mine and explain the clue behind it. Incorrect flags can make deductions unreliable, so check your own flags first. Using a hint moves your result into an assisted statistics group.
Why practice Minesweeper without guessing
Guesses hide the lesson. When a random board ends on a coin flip, it is hard to tell whether you missed a deduction or simply lost the toss. On a no-guess board, every loss points to a clue you can go back and read. That makes it a reliable way to practice before you learn how to win Minesweeper on larger boards. No Guess Minesweeper: common questions
Can I still lose in No Guess mode?
Yes. The board always has a logical path, but opening a square that is not proven safe can still hit a mine. The mode removes forced guesses, not mistakes.
Does the Hint button see the hidden mines?
No. Hints use only the numbers you have revealed and the flags you have placed, the same information you have. Wrong flags can make a hint impossible to find.
Why does a new board take a moment to appear?
Each candidate board is played by a logic verifier before you see it. Boards that would need a guess are thrown away and a new one is tried.
Are No Guess results counted separately?
Yes. No Guess games and games where you used a hint have their own statistics, so your standard personal bests stay comparable.
